I’m back in Berlin, cold Berlin. It was snowing today, even though it’s Spring. But before I got here I did not sleep for 24h trying to avoid a jetlag (it did not help) and got stuck on the airport in Amsterdam.

I Breathe In

Lying down on my stomach, resting. Head turned to the side and breathing slow and even. I breathe in and I can stil feel the motion of the waves colliding with my body even though it’s been 6 hours since I was last in the ocean.

It’s like I’ve carried the rhythm of the ocean home with me.

"I didn’t appreciate this part of the travel back then. It’s strange what you miss out on. All those moments that happen in between the really exciting parts while you’re traveling. Rare moments that sneak their way past you in the blink of an eye."

- Cynthia Llanos

I Have Seen The Sky Explode

Explode with color and it has never looked the way it did at sunset on Manila Bay anywhere else I have been.

The sky started out a sherbet orange then it’s like it caught fire. Blazing deep and red oranges with golden yellow here and there. Then the horizon swallows up the oranges and reds and blue sky starts to reappear. Purples and pinks fade into view. But the horizon, it’s like neon pink with a golden rod, burning white hot somewhere in the center. You blink a few times and then it’s all red. Like the burning coals in a pit, that smoldering red. It doesn’t last long and soon the sky is back to neon pink and then purple.

Meanwhile, the clouds refract and change in the sky, adding depth and interest in color variety. The bay, the dark water reflects the sky, sometimes intensifying the colors. I have never seen such a sunset so saturated in color.

Where I’ve Been

I grew up doing a lot of traveling with my mom. Single parent with a high income job and an appetite for driving long distances and flying places? Yep. That’s my mom. Super mom. When I was little, we mostly did road trips and drove places. The older I got, the farther my mother was willing to venture out. Then I got a passport and found myself in Germany. Did I mention that was because of a dance competition? No? Well it was. That’s another factor-dance. The dance competitions my studio went to played a big part in earning me mileage nationally and internationally. But I’ll get into all of that eventually.

I don’t really know where to start. Or how to format this baby. I’ll figure something out. I can’t believe I didn’t think to start a blog about my travels earlier than this. Or at least write about my journey in a diary or something.

With that in mind: Here’s to reflecting on past trips and sharing stories about the more recent adventures. And to future travels.
